Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the first step in getting organized?
We begin the process with a free consultation. Depending on the project, we’ll either speak to you on the phone and request pictures or offer an in-home consultation. During the consultation process, we’ll discuss your personal needs and help you decide what organizing methods are best for your home.
My whole house needs organizing. where do we start?
Simply Sorted will help you determine where to start if you are unsure. It might depend on where you feel the most stress, the area that looks the worst, or the area that is most critical to your family or office functioning.
For example, while the kids’ playroom might look the worst, the kitchen might need to come first if it is the epicenter of your family; if you eat, talk, pay bills, sort mail, and do schoolwork in the kitchen, it’s a room that needs to be functional immediately. For those who can’t fit a car in the garage due to all that clutter, we might start there. If your bedroom leaves you feeling stressed rather than rested, this may be the place to dig in.
What happens during the session?
First, we’ll look at the space that needs help and then discuss what you like and don’t like about the space. We’ll assess your space, challenges, ideas, and more! Next, we’ll discuss the approach to create a useful and organized space. Then, I dig right in!
How does the process work once you come into my home or office?
Simply Sorted can bring the necessary supplies to start sorting the items that need to be organized. The client normally is included in this process but is not required. Then, after sorting the things that need to be organized we will then access the “stuff” and make a list of supplies we will need to finish the project.
What if I feel embarrassed about my mess?
Don’t feel bad! I don’t judge — I am here to help you! All services provided by Simply Sorted are confidential.
Is there any pre-work or preparation I should do before you arrive?
No, you don’t have to do a thing 🙂
How involved do I need to be throughout the process?
You can be as involved as you prefer! The most involvement I will need from you is during the sorting and purging process. Once that process is completed, I can do the work with little to no involvement from you, unless you would like to to be a part of the entire process.
Can my kids be home while you organize?
Sure, but remember that very young children may slow us down, and you’re paying for the time I’m there. So I recommend that you have a sitter watch younger children. When organizing older children’s rooms, they can be there to help and give input.
Do I need to be present while you organize?
I’ll need you to make decisions about what to keep and what to eliminate. Depending on the space, I may have questions about preferences, which items you use most, etc. Once those decisions are made I am happy to implement solutions on my own or with you, at your preference.
Will I have to throw things away?
Have to? No. But eliminating clutter is an important part of organization. If there are negative emotions attached to objects, getting rid of them can be liberating. I will encourage you to think about whether you truly want/use/need/love the item, and if you don’t, those items can be donated, sold, or recycled.
Will you help me donate items?
Absolutely. I can transport items that fit in the back of my vehicle to a donation center or schedule an appropriate charitable provider for pick-up at your home.
Do you do the shopping for organizational products or do I have to do this?
I will do the shopping for you if you’d like. Normally, my clients don’t have the time and they are not sure what to purchase. I charge my normal hourly rate for shopping and I DO NOT up charge the products. I am in the business of organizing not retail. If you decide you want to do the shopping, I can make you a list and tell you where to go to get the items that are needed to finish your project.
Do you hang shelving or build large storage items?
I do not offer shelf hanging or building.
How to stay organized when you leave?
I am on top of all available organizing solutions for any budget and will be able to create a personalized system tailored to your lifestyle.
What does that mean for you?
It means that it should take you no more than 5 minutes per room to put things away in the evening.
How does that work?
When every item has its designated spot and it is convenient to put away, it is easy and even fun (you feel a sense of accomplishment) to spend a few minutes and tidy up.
Of course, you can call me anytime if you need my services again.
What if I need to reschedule my appointment?
You can call me anytime, if you are needing to reschedule your appointment. I ask that you reach out within 48-hour prior to your scheduled appointment, if you are needing to make any changes to the time/day.
How are the services billed?
Simply Sorted provides two options for purchasing organizing services: single-session or multi-session packages, with a typical minimum of three hours per session. For a single session, payment is requested via Payconiq (or cash) immediately after the session. For recurring sessions or multi-session packages, you can purchase a services card that covers either 10 or 20 hours.
Is there a travel fee?
There is a travel fee of €39 up to 60 minutes round trip from my home. Additional travel time is billed in quarter hour increments (i.e. an additional 15 minutes of travel time is €12,50).
can I give the gift of organizing to my friend or parent?
Sure, but make sure that it’s a gift for them, rather than yourself! Organizing sessions will only be productive if the client is receptive, motivated, and ready to get organized.
Do you offer gift certificates?
Yes! Gift certificates are available in single session or package amounts.
How do I get started?
If you have other questions that haven’t been answered in this “frequently asked questions” section, or you’d like to set up an organizing session, please contact me. During the consultation we’ll review your space and talk about your needs.
